Core'dinations Cardstock Rocks!

Hey everyone. I just had the opportunity to work with Core'dinations ColorCore cardstock for the first time, and it rocks! I kept looking at the pictures of the cardstock, and I doubted that the core would look all that different from the paper, but crumple it a bit, sand it, and you have a totally different look! I worked with both the 'Admiral Blue' and 'Navy' for my June workshop project, and when you sand these they look like denim! I also used the 'Rouge' paper, which coordinates perfectly with the red in the Daisy Bucket 'Rock Star' Collection, and the base of my star (see photos) was done with the 'Argos' - well crumpled, sanded, and distressed with a little Tim Holtz 'Weathered Wood' Distress Ink!

If you haven't tried these papers yet, I strongly suggest you pick a few up! We are carrying all 160 colors by individual sheet, plus we have the 'Black Magic' and 'Vintage' collections, and 'Super Assortments' for those who really want to load up! I have a feeling that once you try this cardstock you won't want to use anything else again!

I've included some photos of my June workshop project below (think about signing up) as well as some close ups of the tags so that you can see the techniques I used with the Core'dinations paper. Who knew cardstock could be so fun?!?

Lisa

This photo shows the display. The star base is covered with 'Argos', well sanded and inked. I wanted to create the effect of weathered wood and I think it was pretty effective.

This tag was done with Core'dinations 'Navy'. The bottom edge is torn and you can really see the difference in the core color and the cardstock color. I think sanding this paper makes it look just like denim!

This shows the piece I made for the top of the tree (back side). The background is made from the 'Rouge' cardstock, crumpled and sanded. The center piece is made from 'Argos'. The 'Argos' turned out to be a great neutral, giving the effect of weathered wood on the base and linen here!

This tag shows the 'Admiral Blue' (in the background). It looks a lot like a faded denim when sanded. 'Navy' is in the foreground, and there is a touch of Daisy Bucket 'Rock Star' paper on this tag.

Bottom line - pick up some Core'dinations 'ColorCore' cardstock today - you won't regret it! You can click on the title of this post to route back to our site and check out the gorgeous colors!

The Cards Have Been Swapped

Wow! We just completed the first month of www.scrapbuglane.com 's first ever card swap, and we were really pleased with the results. Everyone worked so hard and they came up with some great designs (there isn’t a bad one in the bunch). We used a sketch to base our cards on this month – see if you can find some common elements among them. Unfortunately, the card sketch we used was from cardstudiodesigns.com, and the site went down. Apparently, the owner’s computer also crashed, and the image of the sketch we used has been lost, so you’ll have to use your imagination!

Enjoy looking at the cards, and if you haven’t joined our card swap yet, give it some thought – you don’t have to be local to join. We do have 3 new members this month, and they are all out of state! Click on the title of this post if you’d like more info on our swap.

Great job everyone!

Sally's Card

Sally did a great job - believe it or not - this was her first card ever! Sally used papers from the Imaginisce 'Loves Me' Collection, as well as the 'Ribbonrie' stamp set by Sassafrass Lass. What a sweet card Sally!

Patti's Card
Patti made a darling 'bird house' background and incorporated lots of earthy colors. She utilized Distress Inks to give the card texture, and added tan 'Scrapper's Floss' from Karen Foster to the front, creating the look of twine. This is a beautiful card - great job Patti!

Selestina's Card

Selestina used soft pinks and peaches to create this warm and inviting Thank You card. She used 'Walnut Stain' Distress Ink to stamp with, and colored her 'T' with water color pencils. The flower is from the Heidi Swapp, small variety pack. Really like this card Selestina!

Andrea's Card

Andrea utilized papers from We R Memory Keeper's brand new 'Hoopla' collection. The end result is a bright beautiful card. I love the way Andrea used the wavy stripes from the 'Hoopla - Hysteria' paper to create a center strip to mount her flowers on. Cute card Andrea!

Shannon's Card

Ever thought of using a favorite photo on your cards? Shannon put her exceptional photography skills to use in this design featuring one of her colorful photographs. Other elements include eyelets, thread, and a darling flower dangle from Nunn Designs. Great card Shannon!

Jodi's Card - Take One

Because one of our members ended up being unable to make her committment due to a hectic work schedule, Jodi made two cards this month. This little birdie card is super cute! If you like the bird, you can find him in the Three Bugs in a Rug 'Love Birds' stamp set. Jodi also utilized some of our new cardstock from Core'dinations. Nice card Jodi!

Jodi's Card - Take Two

This bright and cheery card features Wausau pearlescent cardstock, and a cute little dragonfly from the Queen and Company 'Garden' set. Sweet and simple - a great card Jodi!

My Card

I designed my card inside and out (go figure). The cute yellow polka dots are from Bo Bunny's 'Ella' collection, and the other elements are cut form cardstock I had on hand. This card took a lot of time, but I had fun!

Thank you to everyone for participating. I hope you enjoy your collection of wonderful cards!

Your Scrapbooking Addiction Isn't Your Fault!

At last, conclusive proof that your scrapbooking addiction isn't your fault! Blame the ScrapBug...

There has been much talk of late about the elusive ScrapBug. As anyone affected by this bug can attest, there is little doubt of its existence. The current dispute seems to center more around what the ScrapBug actually is rather than whether or not it exists. In this piece we will explore two prevailing theories in this debate.

The first theory is that the ScrapBug is a virus, and a particularly contagious one at that. This is justified by the fact that no one has actually seen a ScrapBug and there is no known cure. Particularly susceptible to this virus are women who are mothers or grandmothers (though anyone who is passionately sentimental can easily contract this disease regardless of age, sex, or station in life).

If it is true that the ScrapBug is a virus, a name may be difficult to derive for it. Many who live with this condition object to it being referred to as a disease. The very term disease implies that there is discomfort or suffering associated with it. Most prefer the term disorder, for there does seem to be a great deal of disorder that comes with the ScrapBug.

Of course, all this talk is based on the supposition that the ScrapBug is indeed a virus - there is an alternative theory we must look at, that the ScrapBug is an actual bug or parasite.

If the ScrapBug is indeed a parasite, it is a rather elusive one. There have been no documented sitings of 'the bug', though the effect on its host is well established. The primary effect of ‘the bug’ is a total restructuring of brain function. A severely infected carrier may be incapable of performing everyday tasks, such as housework and grocery shopping. They seem to become fixated on scrapbooking and tend to spend every waking hour talking or thinking about the hobby. Other characteristics may include (but not be limited to) a compulsive need to document everything, aggressively collecting paper, products, and tools to scrapbook with, and a gradual expansion of their scrapbooking domain (from a shoebox, to a closet, to a table, and eventually an entire room or wing of a house – some may even begin their own store). At first, the infected party may actually produce completed scrapbook pages, but studies show that as time goes on, the severely infected party tends to become completely obsessed with hoarding supplies and actual productivity drops severely or even stops completely (I am an excellent case-in-point)!

There is still much exploration to be done into the ScrapBug phenomenon. Research is in its beginning stages, but as more families become affected in one way or another by this hobby turned obsession, the spotlight on the ScrapBug is sure to grow more intense. Since there seems to be no known cure, the best advice for treatment at this point is to indulge the bug! It will not cure the disorder, but it will make you feel better – at least until the MasterCard bill comes ; )

In an effort to increase public awareness about this phenomenon,
www.ScrapBugLane.com is proud to declare the month of May, not just National Scrapbooking Month, but National ScrapBug Awareness Month. As a public service, we have compiled this list to help you diagnose the disorder in yourself or loved ones:

* IMPORTANT * If any or all of the following symptoms describe you or someone you love, you or your loved one are most likely infected with the ScrapBug:

  • Your heart rate speeds up and/or you experience shortness of breath at the mention of the latest greatest scrapbook collections. Trigger words could include, but are definitely not limited to, ‘Prima Marketing’, ‘Basic Grey’, ‘Daisy Bucket’, ‘Fancy Pants’, ‘Clear Acrylic Stamps’, or any endless number of products or tools;
  • You arrange your living room as if it were a scrapbook layout;
  • You’ve thought of saving your favorite papers to wallpaper the bathroom with;
  • You save or hoard paper, products and tools just in case they stop making them;
  • If you were on Survivor #81, you would Mod Podge a water-proof hut with all your favorite papers (this one is for Jodi);
  • You’ve considered having yourself ‘committed’ in order to procure some uninterrupted scrapbooking time – after all, you aren’t in any of the photos anyway;
  • Your kids think that the term ‘paparazzi’ refers to you.

If you have any of the symptoms described, we recommend you purchase more product immediately! Your health may depend upon it – trust me, I know!
