New Papers from Bo Bunny and K & Company!

A Shore Thing Just Washed In!

I am typing this on pins and needles. As I type, Jodi is busy posting our newest line, 'A Shore Thing' by Imaginisce! I can hardly wait to see these beautiful new papers in our store! Penguins, popsicles, and flip flops portend the change in season and I can't wait! If you haven't seen these adorable papers yet, click on the title of this post! Happy President's Day - the Day After!

Hi all. I know I'm a day late in wishing you a Happy President's Day, but happy wishes none the less. I had a few quotes from some former presidents to share with you. I'm sure you'll pardon the delay - these quotes are timeless, and are applicable everyday, so I'm sure you will still enjoy them.

I spent the holiday skiing. President's Day marks the last big ski holiday of the year, and it was certainly crowded. I personally only skied about an hour - I spent the rest of the day chasing my youngest up (and down) snow banks. I spent the majority of the day in my ski boots (wishful thinking) until I finally got smart and resigned myself to taking them off. As a result, my feet are quite tired and sore today. My oldest was able to enjoy the day skiing though, and has the sunburn to prove it. It certainly was a beautiful day! What a blessing to be able to go out and spend a day with the kiddos in a country where we are still endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights!

Fun Valentine Ideas

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! It was so great dropping the kiddos off at school today with their sacks full of Valentines. Everyone was grinning from ear to ear as they proudly passed out their special cards.

Valentine cards, just like the holiday, are special. They are little sentiments of affection, not only for your loved ones, but for everyone you appreciate - family, neighbors, co-workers, teachers, and friends. It's that one day of the year where guys can embrace hearts without embarrassment, and where all of us ladies can eat our share of chocolate without any guilt!

As a tribute to this special holiday, and the age old tradition of Valentine giving, we've designed a couple of fun Valentine ideas for you. We hope that you feel inspired by them!

Sweet Tradition:

Our first Valentine idea was designed by ScrapBugLane.com design team member, Selestina. She used traditional colors and elements, such as hearts, ribbon, rosy reds, and pretty pinks, to create a sweet treat anyone would enjoy! Selestina started by putting a handful of red and silver Hershey brand kisses in a small, jewel style, ziploc bag. She then created a fold-over tab to adhere to the top of the bags using the Cosmo Cricket Hey Sugar Papers in the 'Cupid' and 'Heart String' patterns. An eyelet set in the corner allows a simple flourish of ribbon, and a dainty die- cut swirl, cut out of Wausau pearlescent paper, adds a touch of whimsy to the front. She finished off the back (not shown) with her daughter's name die-cut from white cardstock. Check out the box full of finished Valentines - simply sweet, simply adorable! I apologize in advance for the size of these pics! I couldn't figure out how to resize them without losing the definition!


This Valentine uses the 'Cupid' pattern cardstock for the fold-over tab. Notice the eyelet and ribbon in the corner. Very cute!

Bags were decorated with tabs cut from the 'Cupid' (viewer's left) and 'Heart String' (viewer's right) paper patterns - Cosmo Cricket 'Hey Sugar' collection. These papers are our monthly featured sale item! To view the entire 'Hey Sugar' collection just click on the title of this post.

Carefully displayed in this festive box, these Valentines are cute alone, but dramatic when shown all together! Imagine walking into class with these.

A Valentine for Boys Who Are "Out of This World":

As the mother of boys, Valentine's Day always poses certain challenges (no pink, no kisses, no flowers, etc.), so this year I went non-traditional and created a Valentine inspired by the last frontier - space! I placed a package of Orbit brand gum in larger size, jewel style, ziploc bags. For a little added interest, I sprinkled stars die-cut from yellow cardstock in the baggie with the gum. I designed a simple, fold-over, 'nose cone' tab for the top of the bag, and a 'booster' style tab for the bottom. I cut these tabs from Wausau metallic card stock (Excalibur Steel for some, Majestic Blue for the others). I added a 'pull out' flame from the bottom 'booster' tab that reads "You're out of this world!"

A Heart with wire antennae, google eyes, and ric-rac legs is the only traditional element on these cards. I used very unlikely papers. The booster flame, heart, and planets were all cut from the 'Hopscotch Kids' pad by K & Company. I've shown the paper patterns I used in one of the photos below.

As a final touch, I wrote the kid's names, or the words 'Thank You', on the bottom tab with a white pen.

This turned out to be a great way to create a Valentine little boys could feel proud of, and they were fun to make (even if gluing on all those antennae did get tedious)!



Three of the finished Valentines show the shape of the top and bottom tabs, designed to resemble a 'nose cone' and 'booster' respectively.




This close up shows the 'pull out' booster flame and message.



This photo shows two of the K & Company 'Hopscotch Kids' paper patterns used. The 'water color' stripes were perfect for the flame 'pull outs', and the planets were simple to cut out from the polka dot design.

Cute for Any Occasion:

Our final Valentine idea was actually designed as a birthday gift, but I thought it was cute enough to use for any occasion, especially Valentine's Day! Design team member, Dede, made this 'card' by first cutting a simple bag out of Wausau Metallic cardstock in 'Sparkling Merlot'. She then embellished the bag with a series of tags, hearts, and flowers cut from the 'Living Life' papers by Around the Block. To add a personal touch, Dede stamped her friend's initial on the side of the bag with white ink - simple and sweet. Rather than tissue paper, Dede chose to line her mini bag with a scrap of tulle.

This bag can be filled with chocolates, jewelry, or even scrapbooking embellishemts (brads, eyelets and the like). This bag happened to be filled with the latter - don't you wish you could peak inside? The end result was a darling, very personal gift for a special friend. Cute and appropriate for a number of occasions!


This miniature bag gets a whimsical touch with tags and shapes cut from Around the Block 'Living Life' papers.


The recipients initial stamped on the side of the bag adds a personal touch. Also note the heart shaped brad on front!



A die cut tab cleverly adhered to the back adds 360 degrees of fun to this three dimensional creation.

CHA Winter '08 - A Little Preview for You!

It's finally here... the much anticipated CHA Winter '08, where, after a long winter, scrapbookers everywhere will get a peak at spring and summer lines from all their favorite companies and designers! Jodi and I have been frantically sorting through stacks of e-mail previews over the last couple of weeks to determine which lines we should pre-order for our customers. We have really attempted to find the best of the best for your spring and summer memories, and we don't think you will be disappointed.

While we can't share the details of every line we've ordered, we can tell you that we have pre-oredered a total of 7 new papers lines from Prima as well as lines from Bo Bunny, Daisy Bucket, Chatterbox, We R Memory Keepers, and Imaginisce - and guess what? We are just getting started! We plan on bringing in a selection of papers from Fancy Pants, K & Company, Making Memories, My Minds Eye, Crate Paper, Sassafrass Lass, and more, just as soon as they have their lines available to order. We've also found tons of fun new embellishments from designers like Heidi Swapp, Chatterbox, and Tim Holtz. In all, we will be bringing approximately 30 new paper lines into the store, as well as more embellishments and acrylic stamps than you can shake a stick at.

Youth Artist Trading Card Swap - Check it Out!

Hey everyone. I had to blog the exciting news about our first youth Artist Trading Card (ATC) swap! This is a very unique swap that we are putting together for the summer months of June, July, and August, and I am really excited about it.

We will be signing kids up between now and May 15th. You can sign up online by clicking on the button found on the bottom of the swap rules page. What is going to make this swap so fun and interesting is the fact that kids all over the U.S. can participate! We will be dividing kids into two groups 8 - 12 year olds and 13 and up (no one over the age of 18 is elgible for participation). Don't worry- as moms, internet safety is a huge issue for us, and we are doing everything we can to make these swaps safe and fun. Kids will create and swap cards each month by mailing them to the store. We will then sort the cards (giving kids one of their own design and one of each of the other designs) and mail them back to participants. Because everything is handled through the store, kids will never have direct contact with each other. In addition, no information will ever be released about the participants other than their first name and their city/state (or just state if you prefer). Even with permission we cannot and will not release any contact information about our young participants.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Colorado, we are enjoying a snow day. School is cancelled and the kids are home, which means plenty of time to spend together. I know they will be spending the first half of their day in the snow, but when the newness wears off and their feet turn cold, they'll be inside looking for something to do - so I think we'll spend the afternoon making Valentines together!

Sales, Sales, and more Sales!

Its been a great week in the store. We've had several Cropodile II's pre-ordered. This is a great deal - pre-order the Cropadile II Big Bite and receive the case with grommets free! We have a limited number of these available for pre-order, so don't delay.

We are also in the midst of our first ever clearance sale. BasicGrey Figgy Pudding, Mellow and Recess are all 40% off. We have also moved all of our Scrapworks Fast Cards into the clearance section, so stock up. These cards, as their name implies, are quick and easy to use!
